TRGS 610

"Substitution substances and substitution procedures for high solvent level primers and adhesives for floors" (issued March 1998)

The TRGS 610 (German Labour Bureau Sheet 3/1998) classifies primers and adhesives for flooring and parquet work according to the following 4 categories depending on the solvent content:

solvent-free

0 to 0.5 % solvent

low in solvent

up to 5 % solvent

solvent-based

5 % to 10 % solvent

high solvent level

over 10 % solvent

Solvents are defined as a liquid, highly volatile, organic compounds with a boiling point of ≤ 200°C. In accordance with occupational safety, this encompasses substances and components that are released as hazardous fumes even during the processing of the products.

The TRGS 610 contains clear decision criteria for the identification and substitution requirements. High solvent-level or medium solvent-based products are accordingly to be replaced by low solvent level or, better, solvent-free products with an aqueous dispersion base if at all possible. Exceptions are technically required only in a few cases, noted in the TRGS 610.
